A curved polycarbonate pedestrian walkway canopy protects a high-traffic exterior path on a commercial campus. The canopy spans the walking surface and is supported on shaped aluminum framing that follows the line of the walkway’s curve.

Project Scope

Custom curved aluminum support structure, multi-wall polycarbonate glazing, integrated drainage, and engineered base connections. Crystal Structures delivered the system as a turn-key canopy package including shop drawings, fabrication, and field installation.

Materials & Engineering

Powder-coated aluminum framing in a finish coordinated with the surrounding building. Multi-wall polycarbonate glazing for impact resistance, UV stability, and reduced solar heat gain compared with clear glass. Structural framing engineered for site wind exposure and local code-required snow load.

Installation

Installed without significant disruption to the campus pedestrian flow. Foundation conditions were coordinated with the owner’s site contractor in advance, and Crystal’s crew performed the structural and glazing install in sequence.

Location & Climate

Site conditions included winter snow accumulation and seasonal wind events; both were primary inputs into the structural framing and glazing thickness selection.

Project Outcome

The walkway is now usable in all weather without the maintenance burden of a roofed permanent structure, and the curved profile reads as an architectural feature rather than an add-on shelter.
