Founded in 1863, The University of Massachusetts is a five-campus public university system and the only public research system in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. There are four campuses that make up the university which include a medical school, and a satellite campus, with system administration in Boston and Shrewsbury.
UMass Boston serves more than 11,000 undergraduates and nearly 4,000 graduate students. The campus is also home to 16 NCAA Division III sports teams. All of these teams use the Clark Athletic Center Indoor and Outdoor Facilities. The athletic center includes a 26,000 sq ft gymnasium, swimming pool, ice rink, dance studio, and weight room with cardio along with a 24-station computer lab used primarily by student-athletes.
Skylight with a valley
Replacing the skylight
When it came time to replace the building envelope, Crystal Structures was chosen to replace the 80′ x 20′ (with a 25′ “L”) skylight.
It’s always great to work on educational projects. Providing additional, natural lighting enhances any setting and in this case, the skylight brightens the lobby and gallery area for athletes and spectators entering the athletic facility.
UPDATE
Project Complete
The Clark Athletic Center finally opened to students in the fall of 2021. The university was excited to welcome students back after the long absence caused by the pandemic.
