About this Project
Joan Kroc, the widow of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc, dreamed of a network of “Kroc Centers” in underserved communities, each providing opportunities in arts, education, and athletics for children, adults, and families. The Kroc foundation teamed up with the Salvation Army to head up the project. There are now 26 “Salvation Army Kroc Centers” across the United States.

In Biloxi MS, after recovering from Hurricane Katrina, the Kroc center was built downtown, near the famous Yankee Stadium. With over 52,000 sq feet of space, the center includes something for everyone: chapel, performing arts center, gymnasium, exercise rooms, dance, and aerobic studios, and even an aquatics center featuring a miniature indoor water park.
Crystal Structures provided 41 unit skylights on the roof of the facility. Half the skylights are over the aquatic center, the others add daylight to the hall and entryway. Skylights range in size from 7′ x 3′ to 12.6′ to 7.6′. The skylights were just part of the reason that the Kroc Center has achieved LEED Silver Certification.
